On a tight residential lot a mini excavator is the right tool. It fits between houses and trees, swings in a small footprint and leaves less of a mess on the lawn.
For bigger dirt moves it works alongside a track loader.

Footing depth, pad size and pipe runs come from your plans or your contractor. Have them ready.
